영어공부 7일차 - 기사 한 편 끝!

1. Korea Expose - Let's talk about infidelity in Korea

• pacify v. to bring peace to a place or end war in a place, often using military force:

• conceive v. 1. to imagine something 2. to invent a plan or an idea

한국에서 광범위하게 인용되는 중국 고전인 '대학'의 구절이 있다. 바로 '수신제가치국평천하'.이다. 먼저 몸과 마음을 닦아 수양하여 집안을 안정시킨 후에 나라를 다스리고 천하를 평정한다는 뜻이다. 

The phrase from the Chinese classic text 'daehak' is widely cited in Korea - '수신제가치국평천하'. First you should cultivate your own body and stablize the house, finally run the nation and world. 

• There is a phrase from the classic Chinese text Daxue (The Great Learning) - widely cited even in Korea: susin jega chiguk pyeongcheonha. First cultivate one's body, then put one's household in order, only then aspire to rule one's country, and finally can one pacify the world.

 

개인적인 행동은 인생에서 더 큰 일을 할 수 있는 능력을 반영하기 때문에 전통적인 한국식 사고방식도 마찬가지이다. 이런 관점에서 조수석은 분명히 가정을 정리하지 못했기 때문에 정치인이 되기에 부적합하다.'

Private couducts reflect the capacity which can do bigger thing in life, it is same in conventional Korea schema. In this perspective, Cho was not appropriate in household, she is unfit with politician. 

• Personal conduct reflects one's ability to do bigger things in life, so goes the conventional Korean way of thinking. From this view, Cho clearly didn't have her household in order, and is therefore unfit to become a politician.

 

하지만 여느 한국 드라마에서처럼 반전이 계속 일어나고 있다. 일요일 조승희의 변호사는 아들이 성폭행으로 임신했기 때문에 남편의 친부에 대해 거짓말을 했다고 발표했다.

But, the twist keep coming, much like in any K-drama. On Sunday, Cho's lawyer published that she had to lie because she was raped by someone.

나는 이 스토리가 어떻게 되는지 끝까지 지켜볼 것이다.

I will for sure keep following how this story develops. 

 

 

하루에 워드 6페이지 정도의 분량의 기사를 세 문단 씩 쪼개 번역-역번역 과정을 진행하니 한 기사를 완전히 공부하는 데 일주일이 걸렸다. 매일 40분 정도 공부했다. 2월 말 방학 까지 8주 가량이 남았는데, 앞으로의 계획에 대해 적어보겠다. 

 

1. 일단, 아카데믹 글쓰기를 위해 신문 사설을 두 문단으로 줄이고, 한 문단 분량은 영어 논문에서 발췌한 문장들을 적어보려 한다. 그리고 영어 기사는 공부메이트가 추천해주신 Economist에서 발췌할 것! 

 

2. 기껏 공부한 문장들을 잊지 않기 위해, 일주일마다 복습을 한다. 복습 방법은 노란 형광펜 문장들만 모아 다시 한 번 정리해보기!! 

 

방학이 끝나면 영어 작문 실력이 조금 더 향상되어 있기를!
